If you’re recently engaged, you’ve probably started asking yourself one of the biggest questions: When should we get married? The good news? There really isn’t a wrong answer, especially here in East Tennessee.
One of my favorite things about photographing weddings around Knoxville and the Smoky Mountains is getting to experience every season. Whether we’re chasing spring blooms, soaking in a summer sunset, surrounded by colorful fall leaves, or embracing a cozy winter day, every season brings something completely different. The best time of year to get married in East Tennessee really comes down to the kind of day you picture when you imagine saying “I do.”
Spring
Spring in East Tennessee feels like everything is waking up again. Trees start filling with fresh green leaves, flowers bloom everywhere you look, and the mountains become the dreamiest backdrop. If you love soft colors and being surrounded by nature, spring might be your season.
The weather can be a little unpredictable, but don’t let that scare you. Some of my favorite wedding galleries have come from cloudy skies or a little spring rain. It creates the prettiest light, and honestly, those unexpected moments usually end up being the ones couples remember most.
Summer

Tennessee summers can definitely be warm, so I always recommend planning for shade, plenty of water, and building a little extra breathing room into your timeline. That way you can actually enjoy the day instead of feeling rushed or overheated. Trust me, your future selves will thank you.
Fall
It’s no surprise that fall is one of the busiest wedding seasons around Knoxville. The cooler temperatures and changing leaves make East Tennessee feel absolutely magical.
If mountain views are part of your wedding vision, fall is hard to beat. Whether you’re getting married in downtown Knoxville, at a countryside venue, or somewhere tucked into the Smokies, the scenery does so much of the work for you. The colors are incredible, the weather is comfortable, and every corner feels photo-worthy.
Winter
Winter weddings deserve way more love than they get.
There’s something so romantic about a slower, more intimate celebration this time of year. The softer light, cozy venues, candlelit receptions, and evergreen touches create such a timeless feel. Plus, winter often means a little more flexibility with venues and vendors, which can make planning feel a whole lot less stressful. If you’re someone who loves a cozy atmosphere over a big summer celebration, don’t overlook a winter wedding.
