Katie + Shawn’s Couples Session on Film

I will forever love a couples session that feels like you’re just hanging out together. I just happen to be there with a camera! Katie and Shawn’s session was exactly that. We spent the evening outside, had the prettiest light coming through the trees, and took our time exploring and having fun with it.

And of course, we had to shoot some film!!

Film has become one of my favorite ways to photograph couples because it adds something a little different to a gallery. The colors, grain, little light leaks, and the way it captures a moment just feels so GOOD. It’s not supposed to be perfectly crisp or perfect in every way, and honestly, that’s kind of the whole point. Click here to check out my film page!

Why Add Film to Your Couples Session?

Digital photos will always have my heart, but film brings a completely different feeling to your gallery. Every roll is a little bit different, and you never totally know what you’re going to get back.

I especially love film for sessions like Katie and Shawn’s because there was already so much movement and personality happening. Running around, picking each other up, laughing, walking through the grass… those are the kinds of moments that look SO fun on film. It almost makes your photos feel like memories from the second you get them back.

“But We’re Awkward in Front of the Camera…”

I hear this ALL the time, and I promise you do not need to know what you’re doing before your session.

You don’t need to practice poses or spend the entire time wondering where your hands should go. I’ll help you with that part! My goal is to get you moving and interacting with each other so it doesn’t feel like you’re standing in front of a camera for an hour. We can walk around, explore, laugh, try something random, and see what happens. I want you to actually have fun together because that’s when we get photos that feel the most like YOU.

Make a Date Out of It!

If you’re already getting dressed up and setting aside an evening together, why not make a whole date out of it?

Grab dinner afterward, go get drinks, stop for ice cream, or pick somewhere for your session that you’ve been wanting to explore together. Your photos don’t have to come from some huge, perfectly planned production. Sometimes all we need is a pretty spot, good light, and the two of you.

Katie and Shawn’s session was simple, fun, and had so much personality, which is exactly what I want couples photos to be. And if you’ve been thinking about getting photos taken just because, THIS is your sign. You don’t need to be engaged, celebrating an anniversary, or have some big reason. Come hang out with me, let’s shoot some film, and make some photos you’ll be excited to look back on.
